Norwich City painful exit after a 4-0 home defeat by West Ham

Norwich City’s relegation from the Premier League after just one season was confirmed after a 4-0 home defeat by West Ham.
It was confirmation of a drop back to the Championship that many knew was coming for a while.
Daniel Farke’s side sit bottom of the league with just 21 points from 35 games and have lost every game since the restart.
Their miserable points return - six points less than Aston Villa in 19th - is not the only statistic which shows how inferior the Canaries have been this season. Sportsmail takes a closer look at the statistics that shame Norwich.
Firstly, Norwich are the only side yet to win a single point from losing positions in the Premier League this season.
Despite Farke appearing to be a popular manager in the Canaries’ ranks, it appears that team spirit and belief has not been there after going behind in games this campaign.
With the world class teams you come up against in this league, it would be a damaging stat for any side.
Another important aspect of a competitive Premier League is the ability to score goals, and the Norfolk club have been embarrassingly short.
The club have scored fewer goals than any other Premier League side this season with just 26.
Teemu Pukki looked to be the man to get the goals for the Canaries this season and his return of 11 is respectable, but even the Fin hasn’t added to that record since scoring against Tottenham in January.
In fact, if you needed any clearer indication of Norwich’s goalscoring woes, Michael Antonio’s four efforts against them in one game at Carrow Road today is more than the Canaries have managed in the whole of 2020 (3).
It is no surprise therefore that they have also failed to score in more different games than any other PL side this season (17).
With it being so easy for opposition sides to shut them out it’s little wonder they’ve only won another league-low five times this season.
No goals in the attacking area and too many shipped on the defensive side. They have conceded more goals than any other Premier League side this season with 67.
Their fate being sealed also confirms another unwanted stat for them as they have now become the first team to be relegated from the Premier League five times, overtaking Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Crystal Palace for the feat.
From the stats on show, the label of ‘gutless’, and ‘like an under-15 side’ form Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage don’t seem so harsh.
This said, their relative spend compared to other spend is also minuscule, and Norwich fans will hope that puts them on good financial footing to have another crack at the Championship next season as they look to bounce straight back up. -AFP
