BBI: One Kenya Alliance asks Kenyans to be patient as they await Court of Appeal ruling
One Kenya Alliance leaders have called on all Kenyans to be patient as they await the ruling of the Court of Appeal on BBI.
In a press release, the four principles- Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetang'ula, Gideon Moi, and Kalonzo Musyoka on Tuesday, May 18, expressed their disappointment by the High Court ruling on the BBI noting that they hope that the appellate court will uphold the sovereign will of the people of Kenya.
Also, in a Facebook post, Gideon Moi confirmed that One Kenya Alliance is making major progress as it had been formalized.
" We have today received an update report from the technical committee on the formalization of One Kenya Alliance and we are delighted of the progress we are making. We also respectfully registered our dissatisfaction with the High Court ruling on BBI Bill but call on all Kenyans to be patient as we wait for the execution of the appeal in the hope that the Court of Appeal will uphold the will of the people," Gideon Moi wrote.
This comes after Association of Judges through a public statement urged members of the public to allow the Court of Appeal to deal with the appeal against the five-judge bench decision.
While expressing their security concerns over the BBI ruling, the judges took issue with the ongoing public discourse elicited by the High Court ruling adding that the latest criticism against the Judiciary was a direct attack on the courts.
“We call upon the Inspector General of Police to immediately investigate the said utterances with a view to prosecuting the culprits. The Cabinet Secretary in charge of the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government should immediately assure Kenyans that our Judges and Judicial Officers are safe given the sensitive nature of their assignments,” the judges said.
Basing their argument on the 2010 constitution, the judges said the judicial authority is derived from the people and shall be exercised by the courts and tribunals established under the constitution.
