Police have launched investigations into the shooting of a businessman and Director of Ndarugo Plantation in Juja, Kiambu county.

Sudhir Shah, 66, who was in the company of his colleagues, was on Saturday afternoon shot dead in unclear circumstances after touring the farm when they were attacked.

Among the directors who escaped narrowly is Francis Michuki, son to former Internal Security Minister John Michuki.

It has now emerged that several people at the scene were armed but never fired a single shot at the assailant. Senior Sergeant Jesse Kariuki attached to the Administration Police’s VIP escort and also Michuki’s bodyguard said they drove to the farm in a convoy of three vehicles where the directors held a brief meeting.

They were accosted by two men on a motorcycle.  “One of the suspects was armed with a pistol and ordered everyone to lie down. A shoot out ensued and the assailant’s bullet hit Shah on the chest,” Kariuki said.

Head of Investigations Bureau at the DCI headquarters John Gachomo yesterday led a team of detectives to revisit the crime scene as investigations commence.

Investigations have been taken over by the Homicide team.

Questions have been raised on the action of some of the deceased’s colleagues, who are said were armed but did not fire back at the gunman.

“Investigations have been launched. We shall analyse the call data and subject the recovered empty cartridges to ballistic examination,” a detective told People Daily.

“It appears the gunman targeted only the deceased as no other director was injured,” he added.
