Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kichumba Murkomen has challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to immediately lift the nationwide curfew.

Murkomen asked the president to stop what he calls hypocrisy in the fight against Covid-19 and uplift the curfew.

He noted that it was not right for President Uhuru to impose a curfew on ordinary Kenyans yet he (Uhuru) and other politicians are conducting political rallies across the country.

According to Mukomen, the nighttime curfew is benefitting the political elite more than the ordinary Kenyans.

"The people who are suffering are more than the people benefiting from the curfew. We are urging President Uhuru Kenyatta to stop the hypocrisy," Murkomen said.

Adding: "There are rallies all over today; Raila has a rally in Eldoret; Raila and Uhuru had a rally in Kibera; Deputy President has a rally in Mombasa."

He further told the Head of State to 'stop fooling Kenyans' that the coronavirus only spread at night and not during the day. He, therefore, asked him to immediately lift the nighttime curfew before October 20.

Murkomen's statement comes barely two weeks after the government extended the nationwide curfew for 30 days.

The Ministry of Health on October 4, 2021, noted that the country is yet to attain the World Health Organization recommended positivity rate.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe also noted that the 30-day curfew extension will give the government more time to vaccinate as many Kenyans as possible.
