Muturi urges presidential hopefuls to accept August election results
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has called on presidential candidates to be ready to accept General Election results for the sake of country’s peace.
Speaking when he concluded his two-day tour of Meru county, Muturi called his counterparts to prepare to concede defeat in the next years poll.
Accompanied by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and Igembe Central MP Kiringo Kubai, the presidential hopeful noted there was no need to plunge the country into chaos over election.
“This country is bigger than our own political interests, there is no need to throw the nation into unnecessary commotion, unrest and civil war, just because we cannot accept election results. I am ready to concede defeat in case I lose and I will support the winner,” he added.
Addressing faithful at Giaki in Imenti North and MCK Gichanine in Igembe Central, Muturi urged ODM leader Raila Odinga, Deputy President William Ruto and other presidential hopefuls to engage in peaceful campaign and prepare to lose or win the election .
“ I am asking my competitors Ruto and Raila to be ready to support and work with the winner of the next General Election because we cannot all win,” he added.
At the same time, he called on the electoral body and other bodies steering the election process, to ensure there is fair and transparent election.
Muturi trashed Ruto’s bottom-up economy model saying it lacks basis of strengthening devolution and helping the common man.
He accused Ruto of failing to deliver for nine years he has been in power.
“ You cannot come to lie to Kenyans that you will grow economy from bottom-up, when you have failed after being in a powerful position. If you are serious, you should have started by strengthening devolution ,” Muturi said.
Linturi asked President Uhuru Kenyatta not to endorse anyone candidate for State House.
“The greatest legacy the President can leave is to shun endorsing a presidential candidate. That way we will have peaceful election,” said the senator.
