Deputy President William Ruto has conceded defeat in the recently concluded Nguu/Masumba ward by-election.

In his congratulatory message to United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Daniel Musau, Ruto said his party performed well after coming second in the race.

“Congratulations mheshimiwa Daniel Musau of the United Democratic Alliance. For the sterling performance at the just concluded Nguu/Masumba ward by-election,” Ruto said in the Friday, October 15 statement.

“Coming second in the tight race is a demonstration that we are breaking barriers and establishing a new culture of issue based politics,” the DP added.

Ruto further congratulated other candidates who participated in the October 13 by-election where Timothy Maneno, an independent candidate came first.

‘This is refreshing! Hongera Mheshimiwa Timothy Maneno kwa us hindi wake! Hats off honorable Eshio Mwaiwa of Wiper for your brave show,” Ruto said.

Maneno garanered 2,902 votes, Musau (2,219) and Mwaiwa (1,614).

The Nguu/Masumba Member of County Assembly seat fell vacant after the holder of the post, Harris Ngui Musau, died in a road accident in Mukaa on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway on June 15, 2021.

The MCA’s vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, collided head-on with an oncoming truck, killing the ward representative on the spot.

Ngui, 51, was with another person, a youthful woman identified as Hope Mutheu Kaunda, in the car during the accident. Mutheu, 22, also died at the crash scene.
