Senators asked to end revenue stalemate
Trans Nzoia county leaders have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to personally intervene in the impasse at the Senate over shareable revenue formula to avoid county governments from grinding to a halt.
Led by former Trans Nzoia senator Henry ole Ntiema, the leaders said the situation in the counties is deplorable following nonpayment of salaries and other services.
Ntiema asked the Senate to urgently resolve the revenue dispute to avoid the threats of county governors closing counties, saying the Senate still holds the key to ensuring devolution does not fail.
Speaking to the People Daily during an interview in Kitale, the former Senator asked the President to save the counties and the common mwananchi who depend on funds channeled for development.
“We are asking President Uhuru Kenyatta to personally intervene and save devolution from collapse. My fellow former colleagues at the Senate should seize this remaining opportunity to save Kenyans," he said.
Trans Nzoia county government workers union chairman Samuel Juma Kiboi asked the senators to end the stalemate and carefully address the matter without any hardline stance that may negatively impact on the success story of devolution.
