Predator teacher sentenced to two decades in prison
A city primary school teacher accused of defiling his 13-year-old pupil broke down yesterday after he was jailed for 20 years.
Fredrick Mwangi Wango, 45, was sentenced by Milimani court magistrate David Ndungi after the court found him guilty of defiling the Class Six girl for two years.
While passing the sentence, the magistrate said the man had broken his student’s trust and should be punished severely.
“The teacher defiled a child who he was expected to have protected. The rights of his children are not superior to that of the child he defiled.
I hereby sentence him to 20 years in prison as provided by law,” Ndungi ruled.
Mwangi was accused of defiling the minor who he had accommodated in his house in Mathare North, Nairobi.
The magistrate said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
“The facts of the case were well-corroborated and did not leave any loose ends,” Ndungi said.
He said the victim, though a minor, had consistently and meticulously narrated to the court how the accused lured her into his house on a number of occasions and defiled her.
Last week, court proceedings were adjourned for 30 minutes after Mwangi fainted in the dock when the magistrate was reading the judgement.
The magistrate said that during the hearing of the case, the prosecution tabled evidence that showed how the teacher defiled his pupil between 2015 and 2016.
The magistrate said there was overwhelming evidence that Mwangi defiled the minor on several occasions and threatened her with dire consequences should she disclose the illegal affair.
The victim testified that on March 20, 2016 when the secret could no longer be kept, the suspect lured her to his Mathare Estate home around 6am when she was heading to school.
She informed the court that she was locked up in the house by Mwangi who later went to school and returned few minutes past 9am to defile her.
She told the court that she spent the entire day at the teacher’s house.
“After 6pm on March 20, 2016, the complainant had not returned from school prompting her uncle, a police officer, to call the school to ask about the whereabouts of the girl,” the judge said.
The accused denied harbouring the girl but the girl’s uncle proceeded to the accused’s residence since she used to spent time there.
“True to his fears he found the girl dressed in school uniform in the accused house.
He was arrested and the girl taken for examination at a city hospital,” Ndungi said.
