Raila addresses tribalism in police recruitment exercise
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has called out tribalism in the recrutiment of Kenyans into the National Police Service.
Addressing residents of Nyeri County on Saturday, November 27 during his tour of Mt Kenya, Raila called for unity among Kenyans stating that the handshake between himself and President Uhuru Kenyatta aimed at ending hatered and disunity among Kenyans.
"Jana kuna jama mmoja ambaye aliniambi eti kuna ubaguzi kule Kiganjo. Eti ukienda Kiganjo wanaangali mdomo wako wanasema kwamba huyu hafai. Eti watu wa kabila wengine ndio wanafaa kuenda huko. Hiyo ni chuki," Raila said.
The ODM leader further stated that the handshake aimed at ending hate and tribalism that begun during President Jomo Kenyatta's reign.
"Uhuru and I sat and spoke for almost 13 hours and reached a consensus. We spoke and journeyed through history until where the root of this problem was," Raila said adding that when his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Jomo Kenyatta were close there was no hatred between Luos and Kikuyus.
Raila has been on a two day tour of Nyeri County where he hosted a series of Azimio la Umoja events while meeting stakeholders from the region.
Raila was accompanied by a delegation of elders from the Luo Council who were hosted by their counterparts from Kikuyu Council.
