Raila criticizes former CJ Willy Mutunga, says BBI reggae on course

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has assured Kenyans that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is still on course while criticizing former Chief justice Willy Mutunga.

Odinga termed Mutunga as unrealistic citing the aftermath of 2013 general elections where they contested the win for TNA Party led by president Uhuru Kenyatta in court but failed.

“In 2013 we went to court armed with strong evidence. The same Mutunga who was the Chief Justice closed out the evidence claiming we were late,” said Odinga.

While revisiting this verdict which by then Odinga had accepted, he termed Mutunga as being insincere cautioning him against lecturing Kenyan leadership on any rights.

“Which court do you present evidence and you’re told you have done your filing late,” he said adding that, “In 2017, we also went back to Court against the general elections outcome, because we were never defeated but only respected the court’s verdict".

At the same time, Odinga said the church should distance itself from politics.

“I am Christian but I beg the church to let us do our politics. Let the church do its biblical works, and let the reggae continue. Don’t tell us what to do,” he added.

In 2022 politics, the ODM leader said he was determined in forming the next government together with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

“We want to form the next government. Kalonzo and I won’t go separate ways. We will have to defeat these thieves stealing from Kenyans,” he assured.

Suna East MP Junet Mohammed also took up an issue with former Chief Justice David Maraga.

“Maraga is saying the president should be impeached by the same parliament which he recently before retiring termed as unconstitutional. Unconstitutional parliament can’t impeach a president,” Mohammed said.

Both spoke during the burial of former Kibwezi Member of Parliament Richard Kalembe Ndile at Kivuthini village Mbui Nzau in Makindu sub-County of Makueni County where Odinga termed the deceased as a friend whom he has known since 1992.
