Six MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto have formally been discharged from their respective committees.

The lawmakers have been among those attending Ruto’s rallies and still holding key positions in the House committees.

Speaker Justin Muturi directed that the MPs be replaced immediately. National Assembly Majority Whip Emmanuel Wangwe had notified the Speaker of the intended de-whipping of the six members, who were retained in the first purge of pro-Ruto allies that took place in 2020.

They are William Kisang (Marakwet East) who has been discharged from the Departmental Committee on Information, Communication and Technology, where he also served as the chairperson.

Kajiado South MP Katoo ole Metito (pictured) has been discharged from the Departmental Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations, where he also served as the chairperson.

Also discharged was the chairman of the Environment and Natural Resources, Kareke Mbiuki, David Gikaria, (Nakuru East) who were removed from the Departmental Committee on Energy, where he served as the chair. Ali Wario, (Bura) was expelled from the Select Committee on Regional Integration, where he was the  chairperson.

Catherine Waruguru (Laikipia County MP) has been removed from the Departmental Committee on Agriculture and Livestock, where he was the Vice-Chairperson.

“I am satisfied that the process leading to the discharge met the requirements set out in Standing Order 176,” said Muturi in the communication.

The clerk was also directed to expeditiously conduct elections to fill the resultant leadership vacancies in the affected committees.

Those elected will serve for five months before Parliament is dissolved in June, ahead of August 9 General Election.
