Ruto defends bottom up economic plan after Taka Taka remarks
Deputy President William Ruto has asked politicians to stop insulting ordinary people.
In a statement the DP made on Friday, August 13 while addressing over 1,000 grassroot leaders from Kiambu, Ruto claimed Kenyans from the informal sector make up 15 million of Kenya's population.
"The millions of people whom you are now calling Taka Taka, those who run small businesses are 15 million of the Kenyan population," Ruto claimed.
"They are used to talking about leaders, positions, power and the change of the constitution. That is why they are now engaging in abusing hustlers,” Ruto said.
Ruto stated that his plan is to uplift the 15 million Kenyans who survive on menial jobs while accusing his competitors of furthering personal interests.
The DP said it is the millions of Kenyans at the base of the wealth pyramid that drive the country’s economy through their small businesses.
Ruto further noted that Kenya’s politics was shifting to a new path that was keen on the economy adding that some politicians are finding it difficult to adjust to the strange territory.
