President William Ruto on Sunday, September 3, 2023, drove himself to the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) for the Africa Climate Summit.

The President drove an electric car with an all-electric motorcade to connect with Africa's youth on their climate declaration ahead of the Africa Climate Summit.

This year's Africa Climate Summit, themed ‘Driving Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the World’, brings together leaders and investors from Africa and beyond to share experiences and solutions for a sustainable, resilient Africa.

The event's sessions will focus on adaptation and resilience, renewable energy and sustainable development, and financing for climate action.

The Government of Kenya is co-hosting the Summit with the African Union Commission (AUC).

Over 30,000 delegates including over 25 heads of state and government are expected to attend the event.

"The summit will present an opportunity for our leaders to set a bold and ambitious vision for a green economic transformation, that optimises the continent’s abundant human and natural resources and integrates enhanced climate adaptation and mitigation outcomes," Kenya's special Climate Envoy Ali Mohamed said.

Speaking during the opening ceremony of the Africa Youth Climate Assembly, which preceded tha Africa Climate Summit, Ruto said Africa has the capacity to expand its economy and prosperity while offering climate-smart solutions.

"Our youth — with their immense energy, skill and talent — can imagine that future; a future that will safeguard our natural carbon sinks and transition our consumption to be greener and decarbonised," Ruto said.
