Ruto promises to lower unga prices from next week

President-elect William Ruto has affirmed that he will honour his pledge to lower food prices once he assumes office next week.
Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua will be sworn into office on Tuesday, September 13.
Speaking at a thanksgiving service at Maua Stadium in Meru County on Sunday, Ruto assured the nation that he will prioritise policies aimed at lowering the cost of living in the country.
The Kenya Kwanza Alliance leader said he recently held talks with representatives from the Agriculture Ministry and will announce new prices for maize flour and fertilisers from next week.
“I have spoken to the representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and I will announce new fertilizer prices. We start the journey of reforming the agriculture sector next week so as to change the cost of living in Kenya,” Ruto said.
Ruto warns cartels
While addressing the plight of miraa (khat) farmers, Ruto also vowed not to turn a blind eye to cartels in the sector.
He said he has scheduled a meeting with the Somali President whom he shall discuss the exportation of the plant.
“On miraa, I have a meeting with Somalia president this week. He is supposed to come to see me. We will discuss your miraa market. Don’t worry about that business, the cartels should not scare you. You have given me the cane, I will flog them,” Ruto added.
