Embattled Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza now wants President William Ruto to rein in Members of County Assembly (MCAs) hell-bent on hounding her out of office.

This is after the MCAs initiated a second impeachment motion against the county boss, a week after a similar motion was blocked by the High Court.

Speaking during an interdenominational prayer meeting at Embu University over the weekend, the governor called on the President to intervene as the stalemate between the Executive and the Assembly threatens to paralyse services in the county.

"The Bible says that blessed are the peace-makers for they shall be called children of God...I pray that the President is inspired by God to broker peace in Meru County," Mwangaza said.

On Tuesday, the MCAs filed a fresh motion seeking the ouster of Mwangaza over alleged gross misconduct.

The MCAs accuse the governor of appointing her husband to a county office and 'wrongly dismissing county officers'.

The MCAs claim that the appointment of Murega Baichu as the patron of the Meru Youth Service lacked transparency.

The ward reps also accuse the county chief of mobilising an unlawful riot of assembly members.

Conservatory orders

On November 30, Justice Thripsisa Cherere issued conservatory orders barring MCAs from tabling, debating and considering or acting upon an impeachment motion dated November 21, pending the hearing and determination of the case filed by Mwangaza.

"A conservatory order is hereby issued prohibiting the Respondents from discussing. debating, or in any way whatsoever dealing with the impeachment motion against the Petitioner scheduled for debate on November 30, 2022, at 10:00 am," the judge ordered.

The county head marked her celebration with a mention of the word 'sorry' 70 times to represent an apology to the 69 Members of the Meru County Assembly and the County Assembly Speaker.

She counted from one to seventy as her supporters replied with the word 'sorry'.

The first motion was filed by Abogeta MCA Dennis Kiogora who accused the governor of nepotism and illegal appointments.

MCAs insist that the High Court did not have jurisdiction at this stage to stop the assembly from proceeding with the motion.
