Uhuru fulfils pledge to tarmac road named after late musician De’Mathew
Residents of Gatanga constituency, Murang’a County have something to smile about after President Uhuru Kenyatta fulfilled a promise he made two years ago.
Uhuru pledged to upgrade one of the major roads that residents sought to have renamed after late popular singer John De’Mathew.
The President, while attending the burial of De’Mathew in August 2019, also promised to establish a state-of-the-art audio and visual recording studio which is now reaching completion.
The Mukurwe-Kihumbuini-Mukarara road was renamed De’Mathew road after the famed artist died in a road accident near Bluepost hotel, Thika.
Fellow musicians and residents lobbied for a project to keep his name alive. They settled on the road and recording studio which the head of state vowed to deliver.
Tarmacking of the road by FM and Sons Construction Company is in the final stages and the studio, according to area MP Nduati Ngugi, is almost done.
“We are impressed by the progress on John De’Mathew road and others being constructed here. We are indeed grateful for actualisation of this and other projects lobbied during the interment of De'Mathew” Ngugi stated.
Adding: “Gatanga's State of the Art Audio Visual Recording Studio that is 99 percent complete."
DK wa Maria, another veteran singer from the area commended Uhuru for honouring his pledge.
