Chief of Staff in the Office of the President Waita Nzioka has officially left office after he announced his resignation last week.

Nzioka has since announced his interest in Machakos governor seat.

"Day last… loading .. clearing final briefs," Nzioka wrote on his Twitter handle.

Nzioka intends to succeed Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua who is serving his last term in office.

Last week during an interview at a local television station, Nzioka said he would seek President Uhuru Kenyatta's blessings before he leaves office.

"I will work till the 9th of February at 5 am. I will then make a farewell call to the president and ask for his blessings and support as well as thank him for allowing me to work for the people of Kenya in his service,” he said.

He described his work in the Office of the President as a tough job.

"We sleep in the office. You guys will see the president at 10 a.m. Everything looks good but everyone is operating on one or two hours of sleep because the president is so fastidious, he likes to rehearse and practice. He doesn't like half-baked products," he said.

Nzioka rated the President's performance at 70 per cent, saying the Head of State is determined to change the lives of Kenyans.

“Like any scorecard, there will be successes and failures. If you look at employment, we were growing steadily at around 800,000 formal jobs per year and still not absorbing what was in the market, but we were able to generate a significant number of permanent and temporary jobs for people coming into the working environment,” he added.
