The United States of America will offer humanitarian and financial aid to the West Pokot mudslide victims.

In a statement from the US Embassy, Donald Trump’s administration said it was deeply saddened by the tragic deaths, injuries, and damage from the mudslide triggered by heavy rains in West Pokot.

“The US government, through its partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society, is providing financial support directly to the affected people of West Pokot,” read part of the statement.

“Our profound sympathies go out to all affected by this disaster,” the statement added.

The US also commended local authorities, humanitarian officials, and all who are responding to the emergency.

The mudslide, occasioned by heavy rainfall, hit Nyarkulian and Parua villages in West Pokot on Saturday and has so far claimed about 42 lives.

Meanwhile, as the heavy rains continue across various parts of the country, incidences of floods have left a trail of death, injuries and destruction of property.

On Monday, five people from one same family died when their vehicle was swept by flash floods at Ngatatoek area in Kajiado Central, Kajiado county.

In Taita Taveta, a 15-month-old baby was on Sunday  buried alive by a mudslide while sleeping in their house in Mwakale village in Wundanyi sub-county.
