Limuru MP Kiragu Chege and Limuru Dairy Farmers Co-operative Society members have told Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi to stop interfering with the running of the facility.

Their warning comes after allegations emerged that the Governor was planning to meddle in the procurement of a Sh145m UHT-ESL machinery even after the World Bank gave the  society sole rights to purchase the machinery.

Kiragu said it took the intervention of President William Ruto to have the matter resolved after close to four years of push and pull between the dairy and the county government after the latter delayed to honour its Sh30m pledge towards the purchase of the machinery.

“Last week, I camped at State House and prevailed upon the President to direct the Attorney General Justin Muturi to write to the World Bank to empower the dairy to be the singular procurement entity,”.

Speaking during the Limuru Dairy Farmers Co-operative Society AGM held at the Limuru Milk Processors grounds on Saturday, Kiragu accused Wamatangi of competing with the President terming the same as retrogressive. The members unanimously agreed that the procurement of the machines be done by the dairy management and not by the county government.

“Members feel that engaging the county again will cause another unnecessary delay at the expense of losing the Sh100m donated by the World Bank. The dairy will do all it can and raise the money instead of indefinitely waiting for the county government donation,” said the society chairman Njuguna Chege.

The procurement and installation of the UHT-ESL machinery will see close to 20,000 small scale dairy farmers from six sub counties: Limuru, Kikuyu, Gatundu North, Lari and Gatundu South and who deliver 30,000 of fresh milk daily benefit from the  multimillion project.
