National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has been conferred with an honorary doctorate degree from Kibabii University.

The former Bungoma Senator was conferred with the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa) Degree during the university's 7th graduation ceremony on Friday, March 3, 2023.

The university said it honoured Wetang'ula for his contribution to the advancement of humanity, especially his dedication to liberty, inclusivity and equality for progressive development.

“The award is in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the advancement of humanity, particularly his outstanding dedication to the application of liberty, inclusivity and equality for progressive development. For over 41 years, Moses Masika Wetangula has played a pivotal role in political leadership, as a distinguished defense lawyer, Foreign Affairs Minister, peacemaker and consummate national leader,” the university said.

Also present was renowned Kenyan banker Joshua Nyamweya Oigara, who was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Human Letters in Strategic Management.

“It (The award) is in recognition of his notable accomplishments in finance, economics and leadership, his demonstrable achievements as a person and his commitment to shared values and charitable work, that his nomination is deemed to he merited,” the university said.

Oigara is the chief executive officer of Stanbic Bank Kenya and South Sudan.

He previously served as CEO of the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) between January 2013 and May 25, 2022, where he is credited with steering the lender to become one of the biggest lenders in the region in terms of asset base and customer base.
