Will Nondies teach the students a lesson?
The sixth round of Kenya Cup round six promises grit and action when Nondescripts and Strathmore Leos meet at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa (RFUEA) grounds where thrilling entertainment is guaranteed.
Speaking to both team’s tacticians, they predict fireworks at the fixture. The varsity side Strathmore Leos attempt will be hoping to disrespect the wounded Red Lion, who are desperate to bounce back after they were gunned down 39-8 by KCB last weekend. Strathmore were held by Harlequins 20-20 on the same weekend.
Nondescripts head coach Foxy Oja is interested to particularly see his boys rise to the occasion to earn a win which is crucial for the side that just turned up for their first seasonal encounter last weekend where a couple of errors were witnessed from the defending champions to prompt a number of changes, with last weekend’s lone try scorer Ivan Chebo has been handed a start on Saturday.
“We are always ready to play any side any time so there is no pressure at all on our side.
We already identified a couple of areas to work on and a couple of combinations that worked after our shared spoils with Harlequins last weekend,” Nondies coach Foxy Oja told Wikendi Sport.
Strathmore coach Louis Kisia said: “We took too long to settle in the match against Harlequins and at half time I had to remind the boys they had the fitness advantage and needed to speed up play against our opponents.
Against Nondies we have switched a couple of players who started last weekend, they will now come in as substitutes.
It is purely change of tactics with the intention of taking an early lead and play some good rugby.”
After registering a draw last weekend, the students climbed two places to ninth position whereas Nondies is placed at the bottom of the log after their loss to the Bankers.
A win is vital for Leos as it could once again catapult them two places to tie with seventh placed Mwamba while Nondies need the win to tie with eighth placed MMUST and start their road to recovery.
The other two matches this weekend will have KCB play MMUST at KCB Sports Club whereas Impala will play Mwamba at Impala Club.
Last weekend KCB coach Curtis Olago was proud of his 14-man squad still living to the expectation to deliver a vital bonus and will be on the lookout of another bonus at home ground.
“My boys showed good character playing 14-men against Nondies and we want to transfer that maturity to the next match and seal a bonus point early in the game,” KCB coach Curtis Olago.
