A 28-year-old man from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Gatundu South Constituency home has left many in awe after he declared interest to succeed area MP Moses Kuria on Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.

Erick Karanja, who comes from the same ward with the Head of State, said UDA leadership is the only one that understands youth matters through its bottom-up economic model and expressed optimism that the party will form the next government.

The young politician decried that the past leadership in Gatundu South constituency had failed to come up with economic models that align with the needs of the youth.

Should local voters okay his bid to succeed Kuria through the ballot, Karanja vowed to come up with projects that will not only create opportunities for the youth but ones that will also enhance economic stability in the area.

“We have a good road network yes and President Uhuru Kenyatta has done excellently well in this sector but our people are hungry, they need to feed. Being the main producer of fresh horticultural and poultry products, I will open up links that will see us become the main suppliers to our cities such as Nairobi,” he said.

He declared interest to vie for the position ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tour in Mount Kenya region where he is expected to drum up support for the Azimio La Umoja coalition and his handshake partner Raila Odinga.

Karanja holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree from Kenya Methodist University where he was a student leader.

He becomes the latest candidate to declare interest in the seat after Njinji Murigi and Kiambu Deputy Governor Joyce Ngugi, businessman Kung’u Kibathi, lawyer Ngure Mbugua and KTDA director G.G Kagombe.
