AFC Leopards striker Gitego responds to reports he wants to leave in June

AFC Leopards striker Arthur Gitego has quashed rumors suggesting he is eyeing a move to Europe in June, affirming his commitment to the Kenyan club for the next two years.

Before joining AFC Leopards, speculation had been rife regarding Gitego's future, with reports linking him to various European clubs, including Macedonian champions FC Shkupi, Georgian side FC Gagra, and Tunisia's CA Bizertin.

Gitego move to AFC Leopards

Despite the tempting offers, Gitego went on to join AFC Leopards. Since joining the club in January, Gitego has made a significant impact, notably scoring a hat trick in the League Cup against PAC University and contributing to Leopards' 2-0 victory over Nzoia Sugar in the Kenyan Premier League.

With four goals to his name, Gitego has earned a spot in the squad and and was included in the National team for the just concluded International assignments.

Just after returning from Rwanda for the International assignments and he was quoted by Rwanda Times saying that he love to shift to a top team in Europe.

“My goal is that, in June, I would like to change the team, but of course, it has to be a top team. I would love to go somewhere higher because everything is possible if you pray, fight, believe, and wait for a chance," he told Rwanda Times.

The striker has however addressed the recent reports that suggested he was keen on leaving AFC Leopards for a "top team" in June.

AFC Leopards striker clarifies

Gitego clarified his stance, stating that he is committed to the club for the next two years. Taking to social media, Gitego expressed his confusion over the origin of the rumors and affirmed his dedication to AFC Leopards.

"I don’t know how it started and I don’t know where it comes from. I don’t care. I want to let you know that I am here at Ingwe for two years; I am not going anywhere. I am happy here in the club; my heart, my soul, my energy, all are here. We are pushing to keep fighting to put the club where it belongs, to win trophies with the club," Gitego stated emphatically.

Gitego will be keen to impress as the club features in the FKF Cup round of 16.
