Aspirants for top FKF positions reject membership of new electoral board
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Electoral Board has been rejected by top aspirants barely a week after it was instituted by the current regime to oversee the exercise that is penciled for December 7.
Former Kenya Football Federation (KFF) President Sam Nyamweya, treasurer Noordin Taib Koor and former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga and said they will not take part in what they described as a pre-determined exercise and especially one which will be overseen by a board aboard that had conflict of interest.
In a joint statement, the two contenders who are in solidarity with branches and sub branches said the board chaired by Edwin Wamukoya was not independent and should be disbanded.
In the statement read by Akaranga, both officials queried the incorporation of Wamukoya and veteran journalist Elynah Shiveka in the board, saying they are interested parties.
“We will not take part in a process in which FKF violates its own constitution by locking out branches and sub branches to get leeway for their officials to be re-elected into office,” said Nyamweya.
Akaranga said: “Integrity should be key in the process and its unfortunate that this virtue is lacking even before the polls.
Nyamweya and Akaranga reckoned that Wamukoya is a man on a mission to protect the interest of the incumbent and to ingrain the status quo and at the same time observed that it is unethical for FKF to appoint Shiveka to the board while she is a panelist and sits as a member of the Sports Tribunal Board.
Speaking separately, Noordin said that it was a hiugh time the current federation respected its own rules and the fact that they had not fully transitioned to the Sports Act as required by law.
