A High in Mombasa has issued orders halting the upcoming Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The AGM was set to happen on Saturday, March 16, but following an application by journalist Milton Nyakundi challenging the legality of top officials to convene the event, Lady Justice Olga Sewe has issued stay orders.

Stopping FKF AGM

Nyakundi filed an application certified as urgent on March 13, 2024, seeking to halt the AGM on grounds of a previous ruling by the Sports Disputes Tribunal.

He argued that the current FKF officials, including himself, cannot organize the AGM due to a previous ruling by the Sports Disputes Tribunal in July 2022, which removed them from office.

Nyakundi also pointed out a pending contempt of court case and emphasized the need to protect the integrity of ongoing legal proceedings.

He asserted that allowing the AGM to proceed would render pending court cases futile and result in a miscarriage of justice. Therefore, he requested the court to issue stay orders to halt the AGM until the legal matters are resolved.

"The interim stay of the intended Annual General Meeting of the Football Kenya Federation be and is hereby granted pending hearing inter partes of the application," Justice Sewe ruled.

Earlier on Friday, soccer delegates stood firm with FKF amid a representation war with Murang'a Seal over Saturday's annual general meeting.

Delegates who converged in Nairobi on Friday, March 15, 2024, threw their weight behind FKF in the ongoing tussle with Seal.

This follows the decision to lock out Seal's fronted representative, Hussein Mohammed, which has caused a lot of friction.

FKF holds that Mohammed is not a registered member of the Premier League club and is therefore ineligible to represent them in the meeting.

Seal state that they have the power to send anyone to the meeting, and FKF has no business dictating who that should be.
