Commonwealth Games queen in women’s 5000m race Beatrice Chebet is once again plotting for a podium finish in Budapest, Hungary during this year’s World Athletics Championships.

The brilliant Chebet is arguably in her best form at the moment, picking from her last spectacular shows last season when she won the overall Diamond League gong in 5000m, Commonwealth Games gold medal, World Athletics silver medal and World Cross Country title in women’s 10k race in March this year.

“Right now my main target is World Championships in Budapest, am expecting to go there and come back home with a medal. My goal is just a podium finish; for sure I will appreciate any medal that I manage to achieve there,” Chebet told People Daily Sport.

The calm speaking Chebet says she is warming up towards the World Championships with participation in three Wanda Diamond League legs this year. She has confirmed her presence for Oslo leg on June 15.

The World silver medalist over the distance will again be Silesia, Poland in July for another Diamond League showdown and the go to Britain’s capital London on July 23.

Chebet, 23, says she is under no pressure going into full track season especially the immediate assignment of defending her Diamond League title.

“I have no pressure because I believe winning or losing is usually about God’s timing. If He has decided that it is my time to shine then that is it. Everything happens for a reason; you just need to train hard and believe in yourself, when you get to the field you can only accept the result whether you win or lose,” she added.

The Londiani-born athlete missed a world championship gold medal by a whisker in Eugene last year with her emphatic run, clocking a season’s best of 14:46.75,but finishing second behind Gudaf Tsegay Desta of Ethiopia who registered a time of 14:46.29.

She is eager to better her display in Budapest this year but first she has a huddle to cross and that is the Athletics Kenya National trials scheduled for 14-15 July at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani.
