The 2019 Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) General Assembly due to open here on Tuesday will conduct elections for every position on the executive board and sports committee, an official said here on Monday.

During the general assembly, quadrennial elections will take place for every position on the executive board and sports committee, CGF president Dame Louise Martin told a press conference in Kigali.

The general assembly, which brings together sports leaders from all 71 nations and territories of the Commonwealth, will take place on September 3-5, and will mark the 10th anniversary of Rwanda joining the list of Commonwealth nations in 2009.

The gathering presents an opportunity to celebrate and engage with Rwanda, the youngest member of Commonwealth sporting family, said Martin.

She also said the general assembly coming ahead of 2022 Commonwealth Games at England's Birmingham will offer an opportunity for the members to help shape an exciting future for the Commonwealth Sports Movement.

The general assembly will also deliberate on ways to further evolve the Commonwealth Games sports program, according to a statement issued by the Commonwealth Games Federation on Monday.

The new CGF brand and logo will also be formally showcased for the first time at the general assembly, it said.

Rwanda is also set to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2020. The upcoming general assembly is an important stepping stone for 2020's meeting, said CGF. (Xinhua)
