Equity Bank Kenya men’s volleyball team secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Volley Club Green Team from the Democratic Republic of Congo at the Al Ahly indoor stadium in Cairo, Egypt. The match is part of the ongoing 45th African Volleyball Club Championship.

Despite a sluggish start, with the score tied at 8-8 in the opening set, Equity Bank rallied to claim the set 25-21. Head Coach Sammy Kirongo’s timely advice to players to focus on their strengths and clinical finishing paid dividends, although the team initially struggled to execute the plan flawlessly.

The second set witnessed a similar pattern, with Equity Bank emerging victorious by a 25-21 scoreline. In the third and final set, the Green Team’s resistance eventually waned, allowing Equity Bank to seal a commanding 25-15 set victory.

“The results have been positive for us here and those back home who provide us with unwavering support,” remarked an elated Sammy Kirongo, reflecting on the team’s performance.

With this convincing triumph, Equity Bank has risen to the second position in Pool A, providing a much-needed morale boost for the financial institution’s volleyball contingent.

“The boys have played exceptionally well. This is a significant win, and the spirit within the team is soaring. We anticipate nothing less than their best for the remainder of this tournament,” declared Jeremiah Mukopi, the Assistant Coach.

Equity Bank’s attention now turns to their upcoming encounter against Faith Union Sport of Morocco. Coach Kirongo acknowledged the challenge posed by the North African team.

“Tomorrow is a crucial match against a Moroccan team, and we hope and plan to perform well,” he said ahead of the match.

Pool A features the reigning champions Al Ahly, alongside Equity Bank, Volley Club Green, Megher Cement Factory, and Faith Union Sport, setting the stage for a battle for who tops the group.

As the tournament progresses, Equity Bank Kenya’s men’s volleyball team will undoubtedly draw inspiration from their recent triumph, determined to etch their name in the annals of African volleyball history.
