Fierce rivalries await at Super Cup handball tournament
The Kenya National Handball League expected to have a pre-season tournament dubbed: “The Super Cup” this weekend at the Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi.
Speaking to People Sport on Tuesday, Kenya National Handball Federation (KNHF) Technical Director (TD) Charles Omondi Oduol confirmed the showcase with fixtures already out, and that they are ready to rumble.
“We normally have this tournament for pre-season to our handball clubs. It is also an opportunity for players to market themselves to new suitors and get ready for the season,” said Omondi.
The Super Cup scheduled for May 27 and 28 in Kenya’s capital city has two pools for the men’s category and only one for the women.
Current East Africa Handball Club and the national league champions Nairobi Water Company are pooled with Ulinzi Sharks, Cereals Board and Rangers – the only four women’s teams that have confirmed participation.
In the men’s category, pool A will see Abdalla Otieno’s Black Mamba battle it out against a tricky G.S.U and Thidosia Sangoro’s moneybags Cereals Board.Pool B will have heavy weights KDF Ulinzi pitted with college boys Strathmore and Kenyatta University. The two-day event will also be an opportunity for players and coaches to interact.
