Kick-off dates for FKF Premier league announced

The 2022-23 FKF Premier league season will kick off on August 27, the FKF Transition Committee has confirmed. 

According to leagues and competitions Chairman Ali Amour preparations are underway to ensure that everything is in place.

“Preparations are almost complete for the league kick-off later next month. We are currently organising a conference meeting of all KPL clubs where we will lay on the table our plans and strategies to make the top tier one of the best leagues in Africa. This is one of our top priorities as transition to leave in place a proper structure geared towards the development of our soccer,” he said.

The Kenya Women Premier League will begin on September 3 with subsequent leagues to follow suit. 

Last season’s winners Vihiga Queens garnered 60 points to pocket one million Kenyan shillings courtesy of the Transition Committee besides the trophy they were awarded during the coronation at Mumboha Grounds.

FKF Premier League trophy

Tusker FC, winners of last season’s FKF Premier League champions had to wait for the last matchday to confirm their status after Kakamega Homeboyz pushed them to the last day only to emerge triumphant on goal difference. 

Many clubs have already hit the pre-season campaign with AFC Leopards winning the Elijah Lidonde Cup last weekend, beating Salim Babu’s  Nzoia Sugar 8-7 in post-match penalties.

19-time champions Gor Mahia and Kenya Police FC resume training next week ahead of the new season. 

K’Ogalo who unveiled a new shirt sponsor on Tuesday; aiming to recapture the crown they lost two seasons ago to Robert Matano’s Tusker.

“This is a warning to other clubs we are coming back for our trophy and our aim is to finish top of the league,” noted club chairman Ambrose Rachier.
