Covid-19 pandemic: Homeboyz coach turns to prayers
Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Nicholas Muyoti is hopeful Kenya will overcome the coronavirus pandemic and restore normalcy.
Muyoti says Kenyans are resilient enough to pass the test but not without following the laid down health guidelines like washing their hands with soap and running water, using alcohol-based sanitizers, social-distancing, wearing face masks and most-importantly staying at home.
The youthful tactician, also a staunch Christian, believes these - plus more prayers - will see the pandemic dealt with quickly.
“It is sad that people are losing their lives while others are in hospital undergoing treatment with thousands being isolated from their families.
Others have lost the jobs that they have been depending on for their daily bread.
Things are becoming tough each and every day but all these can be reversed if we do the right things,” said Muyoti in Kakamega yesterday.
He added: “During this break, I am personally engaging in prayers several times each day in addition to adhering to government guidelines to help curb the menace.
This is also the perfect time to express and extended love by supporting others that are in dire need of the essential commodities, to encourage the affected without exposing them to the stigma that is also turning out to be another great challenge.”
“Let me laud the efforts being carried out by individuals, corporate bodies and other well-wishers who have come out to support and play a pivotal role to ensure that this problem is dealt with once and for all,” Muyoti said.
Muyoti is also hopeful that the Kenyan Premier League, which is suspended due to Covid-19, will resume so that it concludes as initially planned.
At the time the league was suspended on March 13, Homeboyz were second on the table with 47 points from 22 matches, seven behind leaders Gor Mahia who have played a match more.
A section of football stakeholders have called for the league to end prematurely and Gor handed the title but Homeboyz, Tusker and AFC Leopards are among those supporting an extended period to conclude the season so that title winners and relegation candidates are confirmed.
Muyoti has, meanwhile, issued home training programmes to his squad and is not worried about the fitness levels of his players as he keeps checking on them via the phone.
