Kisii club rue stoppage of league, set sights on resumption
Whiteheart Football Club has drawn up a recovery plan that includes recruiting 12 new players, in a bid to ensure they have a very strong team and reserves after the pandemic is defeated.
Among the teams that were hit hard by effects of Covid-19, Whiteheart was one of them.
The team was doing exemplary well in the FKF Division Two Central Zone, Pool C and had high hopes of fighting for promotion to the FKF Division One Zone B League but their dreams were cut short after the federation brought the league to an end.
“We had our hopes very high and despite having only lost two matches and one draw in our first leg campaign, we had realised our weak points and we were planning to come strong in the second leg.
That, however, didn’t happen following the outbreak of coronavirus and the subsequent cancellation of the league,” said Whiteheart FC coach Evans Areba.
“Statistically, I’m happy with how we performed. We were very strong in all departments, only that we had full of missed chances. Our losses away to Bandani and Dero plus a draw to Nyamira at home cost us the first leg lead.
The second leg had offered us a chance to redeem our performance, top our pool, participate in the playoff and qualify for Division One, which was our main focus,” he added.
The team at the weekend met with management at their playground, Nyamerako for a postmortem and thus passed some resolutions, among them to recruit 12 new players in a bid to reenforce their squad and get ready for the upcoming season, 2020/2021.
“We want to be ready for the season. We want to achieve our goal and we want to do this by reinforcing all our departments by signing up a number of good players.
The league is very competitive and we want to be ready for the challenge. So we have promoted one goalkeeper, two defenders and four midfielders from our youthful academy.
We have, therefore, to look outside for the remaining slots of one defender, two midfielders and two attacking minded players to complete our signings,” said coach Areba.
Among the promoted youngsters is goalkeeper Nicholas Gekene, defenders Ben Onchiri and Dixon Nyangau while the four midfielders are Emanuel Ontumi, Lloyd Baraka, Dominic Masese and Elijah Makori.
The new signings will join a very rich pool of highly-rated keeper Lameck Mariita and Bonface Ndege, no nonsense defenders of Clinton Ogendi, Bonface Nyamunte, Geoffrey Momanyi, Bob Mose and Bosco Joseph.
