Gor Mahia coach Jonathan Mckinstry has said that the team is still a work in progress despite the series of good results the team has been posting.

“The biggest job now is working on fitness levels which are a big challenge but I must say we are getting somewhere. Our objective still remains the same which is reclaiming the Premier League title. Everyone in the team’s set-up understands that.

To me, I cannot say much about our challengers for the title because I’m firmly focused on turning round the fortunes of this great club,’’ said Mckinstry. Gor did prove that they are intent on reclaiming the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League title after dispatching Kenya Police 2-1 at the weekend in one of the most interesting matches at the weekend.

During a weekend that was full of upsets, Mathare United continued their upsurge from hauling themselves from the relegation zone by beatingWazito 1-0. In the meantime, FC Talanta who received a lot of criticism after falling 6-0 to AC Leopards ten days ago made improvement in a barren draw with title hopefuls Nzoia Sugar.

Pride of place also goes to Kariobangi Sharks who piled on the woes ofSofapaka in a 2-0 win. Kakamega Homeboyyz also redeemed themselves in a 1-0 victory over VihigaBullers in a closely contested Ingo Derby that left fans yearning for more.

Meanwhile, former Kenyan international Boniface Ambani has hailed Nzoia FC head coach Salim Babu’s love for grass root football as the reason for the team’s rise in the Football Kenya Federation premier league this season.

Nzoiatop the league standings with 27 points from 13 matches and Ambanisays it’s down to proper recruitment of players from the grass rootball tournament by coach Salim.

“Salim knows how to spot talent, he loves grass root football, he believes in raising talent and is a top scout.

He has built that team from grass root football,’’ said the former Young Africans (Yanga)talismanic striker.WhilstGor is leading the standings with 37 points, Nzoia Sugar is breathing at their necks with a haul of 33 points and is followed by KCB with the same number but with an inferior goal aggregate.
