Pirates sink Titans in basketball league match

Kenyatta University’s Pirates fought out a close battle with fellow University side Zetech Titans to clinch the match 71-69 in an enthralling encounter at the Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium on Sunday during the ongoing Kenya Basketball Federation League.

Pirates’ trio of Dolph Benedict (17 points), Trevor Opiyo (13 points) and Ivan Ombiru (11 points) as the key men to discharge duty on the floor in what was a physical duel.

Benedict had six rebounds and two assists in the match with six out of the 13 field goals to his credit. He also had four two-pointers off nine attempts and also two three-pointers off four attempts in his 18 minutes on the court for Pirates.

On his part, Opiyo who had a combined 32 minutes on the court, saw him have four of 11 attempts go in as free goals with six rebounds and five assists in his game.

He also had two out of five two-point goals and two out of six three-pointers in what was a measured performance by the Point Guard.

Ombiru utilised his 35 minutes on the court with four free goals and another four two-pointers off 11 attempts. He also had a game-high 16 rebounds and an assist in the game to show his mark in the contest.

Titans were not far behind considering they lost the duel by a single basket with the time knocking them off.

Simon Rapudo had 22 points to his name-the highest in the game with nine free goals in 20 attempts and seven two pointers and two three-pointers.
