All set for weekend’s Tusker Safari Sevens Tournament at RFUEA

All roads lead to the RFUEA Grounds for the 23rd edition of the Tusker Safari Sevens this weekend.

Kenya Morans will Saturday kick-off against Uganda at 9.30 pm while Shujaa will steal the show at 11.10 am when they play Zambia.

Sixteen teams will take part in the tournament including revered HSBC World Rugby Sevens sides South Africa and Spain.

Quality sides among them defending champions Samurai, VX3 Wailers, Russia Academy, Western Province and Zimbabwe will be in action.

Commenting on Shujaa’ forecast to reclaim the title they last won in 2016, captain Andrew Amonde believes it was their turn to make Kenyans proud.

“We are excited to play quality teams in this edition and hope we deliver to Kenyans and our fans the title on Mashujaa Day,” Shujaa captain Andrew Amonde told Wikendi Sport after Shujaa’ captains run at St Mary’s School, Nairobi.

Wikendi Sport caught up with Shujaa pool rivals bosses and captain to comment on their expectations.

First, to play Shujaa is Zambia at 11.10, Zambian head coach Andrew Kaminsa.

“Obviously for us as part of the Olympic qualifiers event in South Africa, this will be a good platform to engage and prepare our players. We have played Kenya before and we are excited to play them in the first match,” Zambia head coach Andrew Kaminsa.

The second match for Shujaa will be at 2 pm against Russia Academy under the leadership of Fiji 7s legend Waisale Serevi, the ‘king of sevens’-former Fiji player and as a coach in 2005/06 season who went into history books as having led the first country other than New Zealand to win the world HSBC title.
