A number of Kenya’s top athletes have confirmed participation at the 42nd edition of Valencia marathon, a World Athletics Elite event and the organisers have brought together a mouth-watering line-up on December 4 when some of the best athletes on the international scene will take to the streets of Valencia Ciudad del Running in Spain with the aim of improving the course record (2:03:00) and seeking the best women’s debut in the history of the event.

The athletes entered for the race include Jonathan Korir (2:04:32), and debutants Alexander Mutiso, Philemon Kiplimo and Kelvin Kiptum.

In November 2017, Korir made his marathon debut in Nairobi. Running at an altitude of around 1800m, he was in the lead group up until around 30km only for a nagging calf pain to hamper his efforts. He wound up in 19th in a time of 2:17:40 but showed potential. In March 2020 the long distance runner made his international marathon debut in Zhengzhou, China, finishing in third position in a time of 2:14:25 – a performance which acted as huge motivation for him.

“I am in good shape and i have prepared well for the marathon and I am equally confident that I can turn in a great result and will be looking to make the podium,” said Korir who trains at the Global Sports Communication stable in Kaptagat, Elgeyo Marakwet.

The women casts is led by Monica Ngige (2:22:13), Fancy Chemutai (2:24:27) and debutant Sheila Chepkirui.
