Silibwet gets tactician in bold ambiton for Premier League

Silibwet FC has taken a significant step in their quest to qualify for the Kenya Premier League by appointing a new head coach, Mark Asa.

The club, which struggled without a coach for most of the previous season, unveiled Asa last week at their homeground, Silibwet Stadium in Bomet County. As part of the new partnership, Asa has signed a five-year contract with the club, currently competing in the National Super League (NSL).

Erick Rono, the Team Manager, expressed the club’s determination to reach the Premier League despite limited resources. He stated, “We have enlisted the services of a new coach because we are firmly focused on the Premier League. We are very optimistic about getting there.”

Asa, who previously coached Mwathate, is enthusiastic about his role at Silibwet FC. He pledged his commitment to elevating the club’s football standards, saying, “I am pleased to be here, and I am committed to taking this club to the next level.”

Meanwhile. over the weekend, a total of 10 handball league matches took place at the Nyayo Stadium handball courts, and it was Equity Bank and Ulinzi men’s teams that stole the spotlight.

Equity Bank delivered an impressive performance, dominating Nanyuki with a final score of 40-14. Brian Murangiri led the charge with eight goals, while Kevin Obunga and Francis Njoroge contributed six goals each. At halftime, the Bankers were in control with a score of 22-10. Simon Mutuku and Kevin Mwangi also played pivotal roles, both scoring five goals and providing crucial defensive support.

On the opposing side, Nanyuki struggled to keep up with Equity’s relentless attack. They had only six scorers, with Samson Krop leading the team with five goals.

Nanyuki found it challenging to break free from their own territory, keeping their goalkeeper, Stephen Mbogo, busy throughout the match.
