FKF Premier League defending champions Tusker FC have been crowned the 2021/22 Super Cup winners after seeing off Gor Mahia in post-match penalties following a 1-1 stalemate in regular time.

The Robert Matano-led side beat 10-man Gor Mahia 8-7 on penalties at the Thika Sub-county Stadium to bag their second silverware in 2021.

The brewers came to the match with motivation from their recent victory against Djibouti's Arta Solar FC in a two-legged continental fixture.

Tusker lined up without their captain Eugine Asike as Matano handed newly acquired shot stopper Brian Bwire and midfielder Rodgers Ouma their club debuts.

The first half ended in a draw with both sides proving wasteful despite getting clear chances.

Gor Mahia broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute after debutant goalkeeper Brian Bwire was adjudged to have brought down teen sensation Benson Omala in the 18-yard box. Samwel Onyango converted the penalty kick, giving Sirkal a lead before the hour mark.

Gor's lead was however short-lived after the referee awarded the brewers a penalty following a clumsy foul on Ibrahim at the 58th minute. The Tanzanian striker converted the spot-kick past Gad Mathews bringing the match to a stalemate.

Veteran defender Harun Shakava was sent off at the 62nd minute after a second booking.

Having ended in a draw, the referee sent the match to direct penalties.

Sydney Ochieng converted the first penalty for Gor Mahia as Monyi missed placing the brewers on the receiving end. Veteran midfielder Humphrey Mieno also missed his penalty , granting Gor Mahia a 2-0 advantage in the dramatic shoot-outs.

Shot stopper Brian Bwire heroically saved two consecutive penalties to relive the brewers' hopes of winning the Super Cup. The traditional first 5 penalty kicks ended in a 3-3 draw, forcing the referee to send the teams to the "sudden death" round.

Bwire saved Gor Mahia's 10th kick after a back and forth. Tusker FC's 10th taker Kalos Kirenge had to convert to win his club the Super Cup. Kirenge put his shot past Mahia's goalkeeper, winning the 2021/22 Super Cup for his side.
