As the Magical Kenya Open Golf Championships tee off at Muthaiga Golf Club this week, it will be all systems go after months of preparation.

Indeed, the tournament that is expected to feature 158 players from at least 25 different countries is seen as a true test of preparedness by the tournament organizers and even hosts. The 18 hole facility has not only been maintained but re-calibrated with an interesting twist of start and finish holes to excite and light up the four day tournament.

Visiting fans will have a grand time catching up and watching play in what has been a hugely revamped course that also includes two villages and spectator lounge. The grass and fairways are some of the features that have been upgraded which will give the tournament a spectacular look.

We have prepared adequately according to the European Tour standards. The course is currently looking lush and it is because of the work we have put in. I want to thank the Government for their support in the project and I believe we will produce a great tournament. In the next few days, we expect the international players and local players to congregate here to all have a feel of the surface, especially the tees, fairways and bunkers. The course has gotten a bit of a face-lift and we also have changed some features to make the competition challenging and exciting.

Organisers have put the twin aspects of Covid-19 and Safety for all personnel, players and spectators as a key priority. Players and caddies both local and from abroad are expected to have negative PCR tests with regular checks by Medical personnel being led by the Ministry of Health. We are living nothing to chance and particularly with the issue of Covid-19. We had a bubble last year, but this year it will be all about relaxation as long as the tests are clear. In that regard, we are ready to test and check everyone coming into this facility because the health concerns cannot be ignored whatsoever. We will do rapid tests on players on Monday and Thursday plus random tests as well throughout the event.

For Safety, we are working closely with a multi-agency group including National Police Service and other Secret Security apparatus that we have deploy. I want to assure everyone that we will have a secure tournament. Besides that, the facility Management has taken the extra indulgence to ensure that features like the wall, perimeter fence and gates are properly in shape. There is adequate capacity in and out of the facility when the tournament is happening.”

At the Villages, there will be entertainment as the tournament goes on and even afterwards. Obath has revealed to People Sport that there will be a fine mix of artists to spice up the event at villages and special dais.

The Entertainment bit has been well catered for so the fans can come and enjoy themselves. We will have two mini-villages in between the two nines and there we will have for both players and spectators a bar, screens and food available. As such, the people in the villages will be able to follow the games on the screens at the comfort of their bidding. We anticipate 5,000 persons at the village area and a further 8,000 at the course. This is more than a tournament; it is a fun bonding event that will be inspiring for families.
