Azimio One Kenya Coalition party flag bearer, Raila Odinga on Saturday attended the burial of his long term friend Jotham Khisa Nyukuri held in Gidea area of the Kwanza constituency in Trans Nzoia County.

Mourning the late, Odinga said Nyukuri was a humble, courageous person who loved people of all walks of life.

"I knew Jotham in 1991 after I was released from prison. He had accompanied Masinde Muliro to visit and check on my progress after my release" Odinga said.

He also said Nyukuri was one of the luminaries of the multi-party struggle in Kenya and never compromised his principles.

"As ODM, we have lost a man of conscience, a man of political conviction and a man with deep political thoughts. We have lost a long time comrade; he has never betrayed our course" he added.

Odinga used the platform to court the Kenyans to vote for him and sympathized with single mothers saying they go through myriad challenges to fend for their families.

He promised them that he will take care of their interests as soon as he form the next government after the August 9 elections.

"I understand what single-parent mothers go through. I feel for them and for that case I will capture them in my Social Protection Programme and they will benefit from the programme's fund" he revealed.

Odinga took a swipe at the National government for delayed disbursement of funds to county governments affecting service delivery in the devolved units.

"The icon we are burying battled with cancer for over three years. Health is a devolved function but people are still battling killer diseases because our healthcare system is not functioning well. I will ensure that at least 35% of money is sent to counties"

He also said his government will build at least one level IV hospital in every Sub-county and ensure that every Kenyan has a health insurance cover.

Odinga later addressed a public rally at Kiminini township in the company of Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya among other Western political leaders.
