Kenya Volleyball Federation elections cancelled
The 2022 Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) elections have been cancelled as a result of a lack of consensus involving the federation’s branches at the county level.
This year’s elections were set to be held on July 30 but a failure to register with the Sports Registrar by at least 24 of the federation’s branches derived from the country’s 47 counties, as is required through the 2013 Sports Act, forced the federation into cancelling the polls with the next step to be decided in an AGM set for the end of July.
“The Registrar of Sports has advised KVF that no county and National Elections can take place until county branches are duly registered. Consequently, the County Elections set for the 16th July and the National Elections set for the 30th July 2022 are cancelled," a letter sent out on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, to all volleyball stakeholders in the country and signed by KVF Secretary General Ben Juma reads in part.

People Daily understands that not a single county so far has received valid registration from the Sports Registrar.
The KVF’s National Executive Committee (NEC) convened a meeting this past Saturday after it became clear that not everything will be in place by election time.
Outgoing KVF President Waithaka Kioni has in the past confessed that the federation was having problems establishing representation at the county level due to county governments not being too keen on sports funding.
“Despite sports being a devolved function, counties are still yet to take it up and every time we knock on their doors for facilitation, they claim they have no money.”
Two elections, in 2014 and 2018, have been held since the Sports Act was enacted in 2013. A new constitution was also approved around the time that introduced two-term limits for all elected officials.
Malkia Strikers
As this is happening, the national women’s side Malkia Strikers are putting in their last preparations before playing their first friendly in Sao Paulo Brazil against hosts Osasco Club on Friday.
Malkia have been in the South American country for two weeks now preparing for this year’s World Championships that are set for September 23 to October 15 in the Netherlands and Poland.
The national beach volleyball team is also hard at work getting ready for this year’s Commonwealth Games that will flag off on July 28 in Birmingham, England.
The pair of Naomi Too and Phoscah Kasisi as well as Gaudencia Makokha and Brackcides Agala have been training at the Pride Inn Flamingo Beach Resort in Mombasa for more than a month now.
Kenya has been drawn in Pool A of the Birmingham games alongside defending champions Canada, Ghana and New Zealand.
