Ex-international Kenya players hail lifting of Fifa ban

Former footballers have praised the government’s initiative to engage the world football governing body FIFA that finally lifted the ban, while at the same time urging the country’s football federation to learn from previous mistakes.

Speaking last week in Nairobi City Stadium, the group known as Ex Internationals was excited that football is back to normalcy, but at the same time expressed their concerns with the federation in charge.

“ We are happy that now our players can play in a recognised football league and we will have a national team again. The situation was bad and it is sad to note some players decided to quit and seek other ventures,” said former Gor Mahia skipper Julius Owino.

FIFA on Monday last week notified Football Kenya Federation (FKF) that it had lifted the suspension that had taken full effect from February after the ministry of sports disbanded the federation over allegations of mismanagement of funds.

“ That’s the news we all wanted to hear,” said former Harambee Stars captain Musa Otieno.

for those of us who know nothing but football. The Minister of Sports has done his part, but now the ball is in the court of FKF to rectify past mistakes,” said former Harambee Stars captain Musa Otieno.
