‘Evidence suppressed by Supreme Court is now before the highest court’- Karua
Raila Odinga's running mate in the last presidential election Martha Karua has defended the evidence presented before the Supreme Court by the Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition.
In a statement on Monday, January 30, Karua claimed that the evidence filed in court in August last year was suppressed by the seven-judge bench that handled the consolidated presidential election petition challenging President William Ruto's victory.
The Narc Kenya leader said the evidence, which the Azimio camp has been referring to in the coalition's recent rallies, is now before the court of public opinion, a platform she termed as the "highest court".
"The evidence suppressed by the Supreme Court is now before the highest court, the court of public opinion. Our constitution clearly states that all sovereign power belongs to the people who may exercise it directly or indirectly brought donees such the three arms of government," Karua said.

Azimio leaders led by Raila yesterday maintained that the coalition won the last presidential election by more than two million votes.
Speaking at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi, Raila said he has confidence in a dossier allegedly released by a whistleblower at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), showing that he defeated President Ruto of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance in the poll.
Raila insisted that he was rigged out in an elaborate scheme involving outgoing IEBCchairman Wafula Chebukati and two other commissioners, who he said visited his home seeking facilitation to rig the election in his favour.
But President Ruto on Monday rubbished the claims, saying Raila and his team should have produced the evidence during the hearing of the presidential petition at the Supreme Court five months ago.
"I was listening yesterday to one of our politicians alleging that members of IEBC went to his house and he is telling this story five months after the act.
"And he is volunteering this information laced with insinuations that the officials had gone there for something he cannot disclose. It begs the question, if it is true, what were these officials doing in your house with your invitation?
"How did you end up inviting the officials of an independent body to your house? It also begs the question, you had an opportunity to bring this evidence of alleged bribery before seven judges of the Supreme Court, and you did not. You have instead chosen to take this big announcement to a political rally," Ruto stated during 16th Annual General Meeting and Conference of Africa Prosecutors’ Association in Mombasa County.
Raila had challenged Chebukati and former commissioners Prof Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu to publicly deny or confirm that they visited his home before announcing the 2022 presidential results seeking favours.
“I have pictures to confirm this, if they deny I will unleash them,” Raila said.
The opposition leader also noted that the former commissioners claimed that some people tried to bribe them.
“They asked me for something and I have evidence to that effect,” Raila told the crowd, adding that it was after he refused to bulge that they gifted Ruto victory.
Raila further claimed that the Chebukati three also visited former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju’s home, saying he has video evidence.
