Ruto’s Sh10m donation triggers clergy wars

Deputy President William Ruto’s Sh10 million donation to the Pentecostal Assemblies of God church last year has turned into a seed of discord among the clergy.
Yesterday, Archbishop Patrick Lihanda, the church head, claimed the donation had become a threat to his life.
He has accused the police in Hamisi, Vihiga county of taking sides in the row pitting him against a group led by Rev Nathan Ondego over the money.
But Vihiga county police commandant Hassan Barua said claims of police complicity in the dispute between Lihanda and Ondego were unfounded, adding that the matter was already in court.
“If one party feels aggrieved by the conduct of the court, it should channel its complaint to the Judicial Service Commission,” he said.
Last week, Lihanda (pictured) filed a complaint over the August 1 attack on Nyang’ori Church Mission headquarters in Vihiga county to the regional police in Kakamega, saying he had lost confidence in the local police.
after they failed to prosecute suspects arrested over the incident.
He claimed the police were sitting on the evidence against 20 suspects arrested following a siege at the PAG headquarters.
“These suspects recorded statements indicating a correlation with Rev Ondego, but what is strange is that no one is on trial,” said the cleric.
