Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) has rubbished Orange Democratic Party(ODM) for defending the alleged theft at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority(Kemsa).

Through their Secretary-General Seth Panyako, KNUN said the ODM party has lost direction for alleging that there was no corruption at Kemsa even as investigations into the alleged graft commence.

"I want to tell Sifuna that the statement you issued supporting corruption and saying that there is no corruption in Kemsa points only to one thing; that the ODM party has lost direction," said Panyako.

On Saturday, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna said the exposure by the media against Kemsa was 'baseless' and 'sensational'.

"We ask the media houses and other news agencies exercise responsibility in their coverage endangering ordinary Kenyans and not just the leaders," said Sifuna.

The ODM party also faulted the probe by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations saying the investigation was a wonder as there was no 'audit' by the Auditor General.

"We gather that the DCI has been called into KEMSA to investigate these matters. We however wonder how this can be so, before a credible audit by the Auditor General is carried out to ascertain the veracity of these claims," read the Odm statement.

After the details of the alleged graft emerged, pressure has mounted on the investigative bodies to probe the multi-billion-shilling theft at Kemsa.

County Governors pressured the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission(EACC) to investigate the alleged procurement scandal that led to the loss of billions of shillings in Covid-19 supplies to Kemsa.
