Currency: Two held in fake money syndicate
Police in Eldoret are holding two suspects in connection with the seizure of Sh100 million of fake currencies.
The detectives seized the fake money from a residential house in Elgon View estate in the outskirts of Eldoret town on Saturday.
Also impounded during the two-hour operation led by Eldoret’s Kapseret OCPD Francis Warui were powders, machines and chemicals used to make the fake money.
Warui said the prime suspect in the fake money printing syndicate escaped their dragnet and is still at large.
Man-hunt
He said they have launched a man-hunt Peter Sitati, who they say went underground on learning that police were on his tail in connection with the counterfeit haul in his house.
“We managed to arrest two suspects and recovered Sh100 million in fake Kenyan and US dollar currencies in a residential house belonging to Peter Sitati following a tip off,” said Warui.
But speaking from Nairobi, Sitati who, contested Webuye parliamentary seat on ODM ticket and lost to Dan Wanyama of Jubilee party in the last General Election denied that he was being sought by police.
“I travelled to Nairobi two days ago to prepare for my exam and claims that I have gone underground are not true,” he said.
