Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya presidential running mate Martha Karua slammed hecklers who attempted to disrupt her rally in Mathira, Nyeri County on Tuesday, July 5 2022.

Karua and Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga campaigned separately at several stopovers in Nyeri before they later held a joint rally.

Karua's team encountered a hostile crowd at a rally in Mathira where a section of people shouted Rigathi Gachagua's name and Kenya Kwanza's slogans.

In a video doing rounds on social media, business tycoon and former Mathira MP Ephraim Maina is seen struggling to sell Karua/Raila candidature as the crowd jeered him while he was speaking.

Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya presidential running mate claimed that their opponents had planned to disrupt her rally while addressing the crowd.

"Baba amepanda mlima ama hajapanda? Tuko hapa iko wengine walikua wamepanga watu wawili watatu wakifanya kelele kelele ati watu waogope wasikuje (Has Raila gained support in Mt. Kenya or not? We are here, other people had planned to heckle us and cause disruption so that our supporters be scared to attend this rally)," Martha Karua said.

She added that;

"Our opponents had planned to disrupt our meeting to scare us but I am not easily scared. I want to tell them that we will not threaten or blame them because we are not enemies, just competitors."

This is the second time a similar incident is happening in Nyeri in recent times. In early June, a rowdy crowd shouted at the Gachagua and other Kenya Kwanza leaders forcing some of them to cut short their speeches.
