The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to stop creating tension ahead of the August election.

This follows the continuous spate of heated public exchanges witnessed between the two on several occasions.

The commission, through its chairperson Samuel Kobia, reminded the two leaders that the citizens are looking up to them to lead them through a peaceful election even as the country is forging towards the polls slated for August 9.

Professor Kobia further urged leaders to take charge of their mandate as leaders and guide citizens accordingly.

“His excellency the President and Deputy President, all Kenyans are looking up to you to provide a situation in which tensions will not be high and where Kenyans can really see that our leaders are helping us to move towards a situation where we have a peaceful election,

“As NCIC, we want to say that the leadership in the country has a huge responsibility, the more responsibility you are given by Kenyans by being elected to positions of leadership, the more they expect from you,” Kobia stated.

Ruto and Uhuru sustain attacks on each other

The two leaders have expressed their differences publicly in several heated exchanges.

Recently, DP Ruto scathingly attacked Uhuru telling him to stop threatening them.

Speaking during a rally in Kapsabet, the DP went blood and guts on the Head of State stating that he should be grateful for the support he gave him when he was seeking the top job.

"Be a decent human being. Kuwa na shukrani, sisi ndio tulikusaidia. Wacha kijifanya saa hizi ati sijui unajifanya nini…please. Wewe sasa unaanza kuthreaten mimi ati utanifanya nini…bora usiue watoto wangu, lakini mimi na wewe tuheshimiane," Ruto said amid cheers from the crowd.

This translates to:

(Be a decent human being be a gentleman, we are the ones who helped you yet now you are threatening us…as long as you don't touch my children, let us respect each other)

His attack was in response to Uhuru's sentiments after he sustained his thinly veiled attacks on him (Ruto).

"Hata hawa wengine ni wetu lakini inaonekana they need time ya kutulia kuwacha matusi, kuwacha speedy nyingi na kujua ya kwamba kazi na ukweli yashinda matusi na chuki."Uhuru stated during his visit of Nakuru county.

(Even these others (Kenya Kwanza) are our people but it looks like they need time to relax. They need to know that work and truth are better than lies and abuses).
