Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Presidential candidate Raila Odinga is intensifying his campaigns in Nyeri county after giving the presidential debate a wide berth.

Raila will be flanked by his running mate Martha Karua and other leaders allied to the Azimio coalition as he campaigns in Nyeri on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

The former prime minister is expected to hold a series of rallies in the Mt. Kenya county before his tour culminates with a major rally at Ruring'u stadium.

Raila no show at presidential debate

The Azimio presidential candidate skipped the presidential debate held on Tuesday night July 26, 2022, leaving UDA presidential candidate Deputy President William Ruto to debate himself.

Debate moderators said they received written communication from Raila informing them of his decision not to attend.

Raila on Sunday, July 24, 2022, announced that he will not be attending the presidential debate.

In a statement released by the Spokesperson of his Presidential Campaign Secretariat Prof Makau Mutua, Raila stated that a traditional debate structure with opposing candidates was a bad idea this year.

"In lieu of a traditional debate, we plan to take part in a televised town hall at Jericho social hall in Nairobi Eastlands with ordinary Kenyans to offer our solutions to challenges facing the country and common people," the statement read.
