Kenya-US in talks to boost digital economy
Kenya and the United States have launched a trade and investment partnership aimed at boosting the growth of the digital economy between the two nations.
Following the partnership, the two countries will set up measures to support digital inclusion, including accessibility, and online consumer protection. They will also monitor global discussions on emerging issues in digital trade which are of mutual interest.
Trade and Enterprise Development Cabinet Secretary Betty Maina said they will work together to put in place a raft of measures targeting the digital economy and other sectors of the economy.
Three-months time
“The U.S. and Kenyan governments will start work within three months to develop a road map for engagement in areas including agriculture, digital trade, action on climate change, trade facilitation and customs procedures,” Maina said in a statement at a virtual meeting on yesterday with U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai.
The two will first develop a road map for enhanced cooperation to negotiate high-standard commitments in order to achieve economically meaningful outcomes.
